Changing China focuses on contemporary China amid rapid development and social transformation. It examines the widening inequalities beneath the surface of prosperity, the restructuring of urban and rural spaces, and how consumerism and the growing reach of capital have reshaped people’s lives, working relationships and values.
The project also traces the legacies of the socialist era across urban landscapes, collective memory and social structures, exploring how ordinary people adapt to change and renegotiate their place between old and emerging social orders.
